A contemporary drama set in Liverpool’s Chinese community, BLUE FUNNEL follows Daniel as he tries to send his father’s ashes back to their ancestral village. Unable to recall its exact location, Daniel inquires with relatives and friends only to realize that he knows neither his father nor his own sense of identity as well as he thought. What on the surface appears to be a touching meditation on loss, reveals itself as a subtle observation of the Asian diaspora – an acknowledgment of the vast experiential gap between first- and second-generation Chinese British that captures the geographical and cultural dislocation characteristic of growing up in another world.
